Sketches from a new project coming out in summer.
About two years ago, I posted a story board for a picture book I was working on called THE LONELY BUNNY. After many drafts and great feedback from friends, it became a wordless picture book called DUST BUNNY WANTS A FRIEND. Now two years later, I'm in the process of handing off final art to the publisher, Schwartz & Wade. Such an incredible journey filled with tons of sketches, doodles, character studies, scans, paint tests, revisions and Photoshop. I can't wait to show you more, but for now I thought it would be fun to show some of the process.
DUST BUNNY WANTS A FRIEND comes out in Spring 2019.
Taking a moment this morning to color in the new coloring book Drawn to Color that I'm featured in along with lots of other wonderful Pacific Northwest children's book illustrators. It's available for sale on August 22nd. And if you're in the Seattle area, come join me and some of the other illustrators for a coloring day at the University Bookstore U District store on Saturday, August 26th at 11am!
This is my tide pools spread. I love all of the fun, weird creatures in tide pools so this was a ton of fun to illustrate!
Cover reveal! Thrilled to be able to show off the cover for TREVOR, a story about a canary who befriends a lemon. It was such a joy working with Neal Porter and his team on this sweet story by Jim Averbeck.
Hooray! My natural science illustration portfolio book arrived! In learning about naturalistic illustration, I was fascinated by the materials, mediums and scientific process. So I incorporated some of my process and materials into this piece. I printed the book through Blurb and really love how it turned out. The print quality is superb so I highly recommend them if you're wanting to print a small batch of books.
Been busy lately! Here are some new things I've been creating this week. A series of cherry blossom paintings for my upcoming Cherry Street Public House show. If you're in the Seattle area, stop by and say "hi" during the show opening on April 6 from 6-9pm.
Been having fun illustrating maps this year and recently started showcasing my art on They Draw And Travel, a super fun web site filled with tons of lovely map illustrations. Here are some of my recent maps.
Hello all! It's been a while since I've posted. Been busy!
One of the many things keeping me busy is a Natural Science Illustration certificate course at the University of Washington. I've been learning so many new illustrations techniques. This piece is a colored pencil stag beetle on duralar film.
Been working on another map, this time for the national parks. Still in progress and missing Alaska and Hawaii :)
I love maps so have been working on adding a few to my portfolio. Here's one I created to tell the story of Hansel & Gretel.
Excited about how these two book covers turned out!
Having fun illustrating various bunnies and doodle bugs today!
