I’ve been working on some personal illustration projects here at the end of the year. Just finished up with this Beatrix Potter London map. I loved Peter Rabbit as a child and am inspired by Beatrix Potter’s path to creating children’s books. Was fun researching London circa 1890 when she would have lived there. There were only two Underground lines and the Tower Bridge hadn’t been built yet. And horse & buggies crowded the streets.
I recently partnered with the Washington State Library to illustrate this map for a "Passport to the Libraries" program to encourage visiting our wonderful libraries across the state. Such a fun project with awesome people! Check out the initiative here!
Been having fun illustrating maps this year and recently started showcasing my art on They Draw And Travel, a super fun web site filled with tons of lovely map illustrations. Here are some of my recent maps.
Been working on another map, this time for the national parks. Still in progress and missing Alaska and Hawaii :)
On a trip to see family in Texas recently, I took lots of pics of the flowers in my mother-in-law's garden. Just beautiful! Was thinking I'd use some of these to do colored pencil drawings.
Just got back from attending the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators conference in NYC. While I was in NYC, we checked out the Natural History Museum. I just love the animal dioramas there.
I just recently got back from a trip to Paris. I was inspired by the many wonderful patterns I saw around the city. Here are a few.
On my trip to Texas, I spent some time at a nearby garden. I love seeing the different types flowers that grow in different climates.
On this foggy Seattle morning, it's clear that summer is over. So I thought I'd share some flower photos to brighten the day. I took these over the summer as inspiration for paintings. Enjoy!
