Looking forward to introducing Dust Bunny to the world later this month! I’ll be doing a book signing at Secret Garden Books in Seattle on January 24th at 7pm to celebrate! Come join if you’re in the area!
I’ve been working on some personal illustration projects here at the end of the year. Just finished up with this Beatrix Potter London map. I loved Peter Rabbit as a child and am inspired by Beatrix Potter’s path to creating children’s books. Was fun researching London circa 1890 when she would have lived there. There were only two Underground lines and the Tower Bridge hadn’t been built yet. And horse & buggies crowded the streets.
This year I participated in Inktober. I decided to illustrate iconic kids and teens for the word prompts. Here are my favorites from the month.
(Character and “word prompt” starting clockwise) Dora from Dora the Explorer “chicken”, Mowgli from The Jungle Book “prickly”, Hermione from Harry Potter “spell”, Wednesday from The Addams Family “cruel”, Mei and Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro “exhausted”, Lara Jean from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before “drooling”, Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite “drain… the swamp”, Annie from Annie “expensive”, Charlie from Firestarter “roasted”.
Excited to show off the cover for Moon Babies written by debut author Karen Jameson and illustrated by me. Releases in July 2019 from Putnam.
Excited to announce I'll be doing a TREVOR reading and signing at Secret Garden Bookshop in Seattle on August 26th at 2pm. We'll also be raffling off an original painting from the book. Come join us!
And for those of you in Seattle who can't make it, I'll be doing a TREVOR art show in Edmonds, WA in mid-September. Details on that to come!
I recently partnered with the Washington State Library to illustrate this map for a "Passport to the Libraries" program to encourage visiting our wonderful libraries across the state. Such a fun project with awesome people! Check out the initiative here!
I've been working the last few weeks on some new original paintings to sell on my site soon. I thought it would be fun to repurpose some of these into art for potential home decor, fabric and paper products. Will show more as these come together.
I've been busy for the last few months illustrating my next book Moon Babies, written by Karen Jameson. Been painting in a new color palette for me with lots of purples and pinks. Here's a little peek!
Sketches from a new project coming out in summer.
About two years ago, I posted a story board for a picture book I was working on called THE LONELY BUNNY. After many drafts and great feedback from friends, it became a wordless picture book called DUST BUNNY WANTS A FRIEND. Now two years later, I'm in the process of handing off final art to the publisher, Schwartz & Wade. Such an incredible journey filled with tons of sketches, doodles, character studies, scans, paint tests, revisions and Photoshop. I can't wait to show you more, but for now I thought it would be fun to show some of the process.
DUST BUNNY WANTS A FRIEND comes out in Spring 2019.
Taking a moment this morning to color in the new coloring book Drawn to Color that I'm featured in along with lots of other wonderful Pacific Northwest children's book illustrators. It's available for sale on August 22nd. And if you're in the Seattle area, come join me and some of the other illustrators for a coloring day at the University Bookstore U District store on Saturday, August 26th at 11am!
This is my tide pools spread. I love all of the fun, weird creatures in tide pools so this was a ton of fun to illustrate!
Cover reveal! Thrilled to be able to show off the cover for TREVOR, a story about a canary who befriends a lemon. It was such a joy working with Neal Porter and his team on this sweet story by Jim Averbeck.
