steal like an artist

I recently read a great book by Austin Kleon called "Steal Like an Artist." It had been recommended to me from several people, so I finally got around to reading it. It's full of tons of quotes from famous creatives. For instance David Bowie's, "The only art I'll ever study is stuff that I can steal from."

Kleon's main point is that really great creators are inspired by many different sources. They combine these influences with their own perspective to make truly great work.

As an artist, I've definitely been inspired by many different artists and creators. Here's a pic of just a few books of painters, designers, film makers and writers that inspire my work. I love to pull these off the shelf and browse through them from time to time.

J. Otto Seibold, Tove Jansson, Henri Toulouse Lautrec, Richard Scarry, Pierre Bonnard, Olle Eksell, Yoshitomo Nara, Henri Matisse, Max Ernst, Ernst Haeckel, Hiroshige, Wes Anderson, Marc Boutavant
